OSRS Dragon Pickaxe:
The Wilderness Rejuvenation update on March 13th, 2014 introduced the dragon pickaxe to OSRS, which can only be used with 61 Mining and requires 60 Attack to wield. It shares the position of the second strongest and second fastest pickaxe in the game with the 3rd age pickaxe, with the crystal pickaxe being the only one stronger and faster.
Compared to a rune pickaxe, the dragon pickaxe increases overall mining speed by 5.88% when waiting for ores to respawn or moving to a new resource is excluded. By default, it offers a chance to mine an ore every three ticks, and an additional 1/6 chance to reduce it to two ticks.
Although 61 Mining is required to mine ores with the pickaxe, players with 60 Attack can still use the special attack to mine with the pickaxe starting from level 58.
OSRS Dragon Pickaxe Combat Styles:
Category: Pickaxe | Combat Style | Style type | Weapon Style | Experience | Invisible Boost |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Spike | Stab | Accurate | Attack and Hitpoints | +3 Attack | |
Impale | Stab | Aggressive | Strength and Hitpoints | +3 Strength | |
Smash | Crush | Aggressive | Strength and Hitpoints | +3 Strength | |
Block | Stab | Defensive | Defence and Hitpoints | +3 Defence |
OSRS Dragon Pickaxe Special Attacks:
To utilize the dragon pickaxe’s special attack, Rock Knocker, players need to have 60 Attack as it consumes 100% of their special attack energy and temporarily boosts their Mining level by 3. This allows players to mine rocks that are above their current mining level.
While this effect is useful for temporary speed boosts or fulfilling mining requirements beyond the player’s current level, it’s not recommended for gaining experience due to the downtime between specials. However, if used with the Lightbearer ring, special attack energy regenerates twice as fast, making it viable for consistently mining rocks 1-2 levels higher than the player’s base level.
Players with 60 Attack can use the special attack to mine with the pickaxe starting at level 58. However, if their actual Mining level is below 58, they will need to carry a lower-tier pickaxe in their inventory to actually mine. It’s important to note that any levels boosted above 99 with the special attack will be treated as 99, resulting in diminishing returns at levels 97 and 98, with no added value at level 99.
OSRS Dragon Pickaxe Upgrading:
To create an infernal pickaxe, players need to combine a smouldering stone with a dragon pickaxe, which requires 85 Smithing and cannot be undone. The infernal pickaxe has a 1/3 chance of disintegrating ores for Smithing experience while mining and can disintegrate 5,000 ores before degrading. To recharge it, another smouldering stone or dragon pickaxe is needed, and the effect cannot be toggled.
To create a crystal pickaxe, players can combine a dragon pickaxe, 120 crystal shards, and a crystal tool seed using a singing bowl. This requires 76 Smithing and Crafting, which can be boosted. If they cannot create it themselves, they can ask Conwenna or Reese to sing the crystal for them for an additional 60 crystal shards, for a total of 180.
Players can also use a dragon pickaxe upgrade kit, Trailblazer tool ornament kit, or Zalcano shard to change the appearance of their dragon pickaxe to a dragon pickaxe (upgraded), Dragon pickaxe (or) (Trailblazer), or dragon pickaxe (or), respectively. This process only changes the pickaxe’s appearance in OSRS and makes it untradeable. While the Trailblazer kit and shard will be retained, the dragon pickaxe upgrade kit will not.
