Runecrafting Quest Experience:

To begin training Runecrafting in OSRS, completing the Rune Mysteries quest is a must. Performance Diaries:

Completing each Achievement Diary tier (Easy, Intermediate, Hard, or Elite) rewards experience lamps that can be used on Runecrafting, granting a total of 816k xp. This saves over 16 hours of training time.

Tears of Guthix:

Upon completing the Tears of Guthix quest, you become eligible to participate in the weekly D&D. To be eligible, you need to have earned a minimum of one search point or 100,000 experience points in total each week. To check your eligibility, you can refer to the Tears of Guthix mission log, which will indicate how much experience you need or how much time you have to wait. The Games Necklace can be used to reach Juna quickly by teleporting straight to Tears of Guthix.

Old School RuneScape Runecrafting Guide: 1-99 Methods

Once inside, you have a limited time to collect as many tears as possible, and you will receive experience points in your lowest skill as a reward. For most players, Runecrafting is typically their lowest skill, but you may need to train your other skills a bit more for this method to be useful in improving your Runecrafting skill.

P2P 1-99 method:

The art of Runecrafting largely depends on personal preference. While some methods may yield higher profits, others may be more calming or grant greater experience rates. To determine what suits you best, it’s advisable to experiment with various advanced techniques. Additionally, switching between methods is perfectly acceptable and even encouraged. For information on altar locations, please refer to Altar Locations.

Levels 1-9: Sky Runes

To progress from levels 1 to 9, you must craft Air Runes. However, if you choose not to initiate your search, you can craft them instead. The Air Altar is located just west of the farm south of Falador.

Levels 9-14: Earth Runes

Moving on, the second step involves crafting Earth Runes from levels 9 to 14. The Earth Altar can be found northeast of Varrock, and you can quickly bank with Lumberyard teleports or Rings of Dueling.

Levels 14-44: Fire Runes

The third step entails crafting Fire Runes from levels 14 to 44. To reach the altar located north of the Duel Arena, use Rings of Dueling, then teleport to Castle Wars for swift banking. This method is highly recommended and will cost less than 100k in total for Rings of Dueling, making it the fastest way to reach level 44 among low-level Runes.

Levels 23-99: Lava Runes

Lava Runes, like Fire Runes, yield some of the highest experience percentages in the game. This method is quick to perform and uses the same banking method as Fire Runes. You can begin crafting Lava Runes as early as level 23, but it requires other high-level skills to work efficiently. For more information on this method, please consult the Lava Runecrafting section of this guide.

Levels 44/91-99: Natural Runes

Nature runes are always in high demand as they are required to cast the popular High Alchemy spell. These can be made quickly through the Abyss.

At level 91 Runecrafting, you can craft duplicate Nature Runes, making this method even more profitable. Check out the Abyss Runecrafting section for a detailed guide.

Levels 75/90-99: ZMI Altar

The ZMI method allows you to craft multiple random runes with each of your essence. While this can be used at any Runecrafting level, your experience percentages are best from level 75 or 90.

This method has a few other requirements to run efficiently, so refer to the ZMI Runecrafting section of this guide.

Levels 90-99: Soul Runes

Similar to Blood Runes, Soul Runes can only be crafted in the Arceuus area in Zeah. The process is the same as Blood Runes; you just go to a different altar.

For more information, check out the Blood/Soul Runecrafting section.

Levels 65-91: Death Runes

After completing the Mourning’s End Part II quest, you unlock the ability to craft Death Runes. These provide a bit more experience than Nature Runes and slightly more profit.

These are only recommended up to 91, as double Nature Runes yield a much larger gain over Death Runes. Refer to the Abyss Runecrafting section for a detailed method.

Levels 77/90-99: Blood Runes

Blood Runes can be crafted in the Arceuus area of Zeah. They are different from traditional Runecrafting and offer a more relaxed training method, while still providing great experience and profit.

For more details, see the Blood/Soul Runecrafting section of this guide.

Levels 91-99: Nature Runes

At level 91 Runecrafting, you can craft duplicate Nature Runes. While not the fastest method, it is the most profitable way to reach level 99.

This method also uses the Abyss, so refer to that section for more details.

Weight-reducing equipment:

When training Runecrafting in OSRS, it is necessary to frequently travel between locations. Therefore, it is essential to use equipment that can minimize your weight, which will allow you to run for a longer duration. Having a high Agility level in conjunction with such items can significantly aid you in your training.

  • Full graceful outfit
  • Spotted or Spottier Cape
  • Boots of Lightness
  • Fine Gloves
  • Black Pickaxe (for Abyss Runecrafting)

Runecrafting Pouches:

When Runecrafting in OSRS, pouches are essential as they can hold extra essence for you, saving valuable inventory space. Each pouch takes up one inventory slot and can hold up to 60 essences in total.

To obtain pouches, you’ll need to kill monsters in the Abyss, which can drop them. The level requirements for each pouch vary.

  • Small  : 1 – Contains 3 essences
  • Medium  : 25 – Contains 9 essence
  • Large  : 50 – Contains 18 essences
  • Giant  : 75 – Contains 30 essences

As you use the pouches, they will deteriorate and require repairs. You can either bring them to the Dark Mage in the Abyss, or use the NPC Contact spell on the Lunar Spellbook to contact him remotely.

A useful tip: you can quickly empty your pouches by shift-clicking them, if you have that option enabled.

Abyss Runecrafting:

Crafting runes in the Abyss can be a risky business, as the entrance is located in the lower levels of the Wilderness. Upon entering, your prayer will be drained to zero and you will experience terror. It is advisable to only risk your Amulet of Glory and avoid bringing anything you are not willing to lose.

Old School RuneScape Runecrafting Guide: 1-99 Methods

Before starting, we suggest completing the Heroes’ Quest to charge up your Amulets of Glory. It is recommended to stock up on 10-20 of them to minimize the need for charging. Run energy is also important as the distance from the bank to the Abyss is far and will quickly drain your energy. Wear your best weight-reducing gear and consider purchasing Stamina drinks to maintain your energy levels. Although they can be expensive, if you make Nature or Death runes, your gain will outweigh the loss.

To begin your run, fill all your bags with essence at the Edgeville bank. Follow the route provided to reach the Mage of Zamorak and use his ‘Teleport’ right click option to move to the Abyss. From there, look for an agility or mining obstacle to enter the inner tier. It’s essential to carry a pickaxe as you will require it to enter.

Once inside, you can access all the altars without a talisman or tiara. This route is much more convenient for higher-level runes, as their altars are further away from a bank. Enter the altar, make your runes and use your Amulet of Glory to teleport back to Edgeville. Exchange your amulet, use a Stamina potion, refill your pouches, and do all your banking before repeating the run.

While you do not require a talisman or tiara, quest requirements must be fulfilled. For instance, you cannot create Death Runes without completing Mourning’s End Part II. The Dark Mage is situated in the center of the Abyss and can fix all your broken pouches upon request. It is also recommended to keep some food in your inventory as the monsters in the Abyss can be tough.

ZMI Runecrafting:

To efficiently use the ZMI Shrine, you’ll need to have Level 71 Magic and have completed the Lunar Diplomacy quest. This unlocks the Ourania teleport, giving you quick access to the bank and prayer altar.

For this method, there’s a lot of setup required if you plan to do it effectively for an extended period. To quickly bank, your bank should be completely filled, and you should remove placeholders from your pouches and other inventory items. This way, you can use the ‘deposit all’ option to store all your runes in one trip.

It’s important to wear weight-reducing gear and bring a good defense shield since the monsters in the area are high-level and can deal significant damage. It’s recommended to use official world 327, as more players around you means a lower chance of taking damage.

To open your bank, the banker requires 20 runes, which can be any cheap rune except for combination runes. Be sure to purchase them in bulk before starting this method, as you will be using them frequently. Although this method doesn’t start making money until around Level 45, the experience percentages won’t be significant until around Level 75.

Astral Runecrafting:

Once you reach level 82, you can produce double Astral Runes, which offer faster experience rates than Nature Runes and provide a higher level of experience. To perform this method, you’ll need level 69 Magic for the Lunar Teleport spell and completion of Lunar Diplomacy. Equip a staff that grants you Earth Runes so that you only need to carry Laws, which are required for the teleport spell.

Like ZMI, high-level monsters are present in your path, so we highly advise you to use a shield and keep some food in your pouch to consume if your health is low. However, these creatures should not pose a significant threat.

To do this efficiently, run from the bank to the altar (follow the route to the left). After making your runes, use the Lunar Teleport spell to return to the bank swiftly. Make sure you wear your Seal of Passage to access the bank! Here, you should be able to achieve an experience rate of about 33,000 per hour, which can be increased with practice. You earn more profit than single Nature Runes and don’t need to risk using the Abyss.

Additionally, you’ll want to have the NPC Contact spell unlocked to communicate with the Dark Mage and repair your pouches without having to go to the Abyss.

Lava Runecrafting:

One of the fastest training methods in the game can be started at a very early level of 23. To do this efficiently, it’s necessary to have completed Lunar Diplomacy and have at least 67 Magic (82 recommended) to use and repair pouches. It’s recommended to wear your best weight reduction gear along with a Fire Tiara. Additionally, you should prepare by stocking up on the following items:

  • Earth Runes
  • Binding Chains
  • Rings of Dueling
  • Stamina potions
  • Earth talismans
  • Runes for NPC Contact

To start, teleport to the Duel Arena using the Ring of Dueling. Head west to enter the Fire Altar, and make Lava Runes by using Earth Runes on the altar. Your Earth Talisman will be consumed in the process. If you have 82 Magic, cast the Magic Imbue spell as soon as you enter the altar to avoid using Earth Talismans.

After making the runes, use your Ring of Dueling to teleport to Castle Wars for banking and restocking. Keep your running energy up with Stamina Potions and replace your binding chain when it breaks. Then, repeat the process.

Blood/Soul Runecrafting:

Crafting these two types of runes is not only a profitable endeavor, but also a relaxing one. However, it comes with some rigorous requirements. You must have 77/90 Runecrafting, 73 Agility, 38 Mining & Crafting, and 100% Arceuus Favor. You will also need to carry a chisel in your inventory for both methods.

Begin by traveling to Zeah and heading to the Essence Mine. Mine a full inventory of Dense Essence Blocks. Use the agility shortcut to reach the Dark Altar and transform your essence into Dark Essence Blocks. Return to the mines and use your chisel to break them down.

Repeat the process by mining another inventory of Essence blocks, transforming them at the Dark Altar, and finally heading to the Blood or Soul altar to create your runes. Remember to chisel your blocks and craft them again before repeating the entire process.

F2P 1-99 method

Although Runecrafting is a skill available for free-to-play users, most of its content is reserved for members. Crafting runes is limited to level 20, which means that training is significantly slow and options are limited.

Levels 1-9: Sky Runes

For levels 1-9, you’ll need to craft Sky Runes, and there are no quests in F2P to earn Runecrafting experience. This leaves you with the only option of running from the bench in Falador to the Air shrine until you reach level 9.

Levels 9-14: Earth Runes

For levels 9-14, Earth Runes are the way to go. Unfortunately, there are no teleports available in F2P, so you’ll need to make use of the Varrock East Bank to run back and forth to the Earth Altar.

Levels 14-20: Fire Runes

Moving on to levels 14-20, Fire Runes can be crafted using the bank chest in the Duel Arena. Though you cannot use Rings of Dueling to speed up the process, you can still run from the altar to the bank and make runes up to level 20.

Levels 20-99: Body Runes

For levels 20-99, crafting Body Runes is the most common way to achieve the maximum Runecrafting level in F2P. To do this, run from the Edgeville bank to the altar to craft your runes.

Skill cape:
