The 8 Best F2P Money Making Methods on OSRS:
Whenever I returned to playing Runescape after a break, the question always arose whether to dive back into membership or start afresh with a new account and adopt the old-school techniques to inch closer towards that bond.
Personally, I found it challenging to accumulate F2P money as it limited my activities. However, for those who are unable to afford a membership or prefer to reach P2P without investing actual money, starting from stage 1 after completing tutorial island, I conducted some research and discovered some updated F2P methods that are bound to help you achieve your objectives.
It’s important to note that almost all the items obtained from the wilderness or other techniques cannot be traded on the Grand Exchange until your account has aged enough. This requires you to possess either 7 quest points, 24 hours of in-game time, or upgrading to P2P.
Method 1 – Wilderness Looting
- No requirements
- Directly Off Tutorial Island
- 40-85K Per Hour
Currently, the riskiest yet most profitable way for a free-to-play player to earn money is through wilderness looting. As soon as you enter the main land, you can proceed to Edgeville and commence earning cash right away. However, since you are in the wilderness, you may encounter individuals who may try to attack you.
Typically, most players do not bother with level 3 characters. Your primary rivals will be other looters, so you must be prepared to act swiftly. It is advisable to switch to world 308 and carry some starter food from tutorial island in case of emergency, but you should have your own supply within an hour.
It is a straightforward process. Once you have switched to world 308, cross the Edgeville wilderness ditch and collect everything you come across. You may be amazed by what others have abandoned. Who knows? You may even get lucky and obtain a rare drop!
Method 2 – Buying Woad Leaves
- 1-5K Coins Required
- 30-60K per hour
Once you have accumulated some initial cash using the aforementioned method, I suggest traveling to Falador. In the northeast part of Falador’s garden, you will come across an NPC called ‘Wyson the Gardener.’ This method can also be done with as little as 1,000 gold.
After arriving with some cash, engage in conversation with Wyson and proceed with the dialogue. Let him know that you wish to purchase some Woad Leaves, and when he inquires about an offer, suggest 20 coins. For every 20 coins spent, he will provide you with two Woad Leaves. Currently, two Woad Leaves are worth 104Gp on the Grand Exchange, resulting in an 84 GP profit for just 10 seconds of work!
Your earnings per hour can vary depending on how quickly you can navigate through Wyson’s dialogue. I’ve seen individuals earn up to 35K per hour through this method, making it an excellent start to building your bank.
Method 3 – Making Chocolate Dust
- No Requirements
- 100K Recommended
- 65-75K Per hour
Once you have established a solid foundation for your new account using the previously mentioned methods, I suggest going to the Grand Exchange and purchasing some chocolate bars. Using a knife on a chocolate bar requires no prerequisites to produce chocolate dust. Currently, there is a 14GP profit margin for each bar you convert to dust, and each inventory takes approximately 15-20 seconds. Depending on your clicking skills, you can earn around 1K or more per minute.
Note: For the most efficient hourly rates, I advise configuring your inventory as follows.
Method 4 – Buying food from Wydin’s Store
- 1-5K Recommended
- 70-75K Per Hour
An overlooked method is purchasing food from Wydin’s store in Port Sarim. All of the food sold in the shop is significantly cheaper than the prices on the Grand Exchange. By utilizing the world-hopping feature and banking in Draynor, you could potentially earn 70-75K per hour, depending on market prices. This presents an exceptional opportunity for early-stage players to accumulate wealth.
Method 5 – Buying Feather Packs from Gerrant
- 50-100k Recommended
- 150-300K Per hour
For as long as I can recall, purchasing feather packs has been an exceptionally profitable F2P money-making technique. Depending on the market price of feathers, which typically hovers around 2GP, you can earn anywhere from 100K to 300K PER HOUR. Simply visit Gerrant in Port Sarim and purchase 10 feather packs for 200GP each (2,000 coins per 10), then open them and repeat the process by hopping worlds.
By opening 10 packs, you can make a profit of 1K gold, and if you sell them for 3gp on the Grand Exchange, you can earn even greater profits! However, it’s worth noting that selling at 3gp may take a few days. It’s up to you to decide whether to wait for them to sell or not.
Method 6 – Iron/Gold Ore Mining
- 30/40 Mining Required
- Pickaxe
- 35-75K Per Hour
Mining can be an efficient way to make money in F2P. Even with low level requirements, you can earn a decent amount of gold by afking. When you reach 30 mining, you can mine Iron Ore which is abundant throughout Runescape, and this can bring in around 20-50K per hour.
Once you hit 40 mining, you can start mining Gold Ore which has the potential to earn you anywhere from 50-125K per hour, depending on your level and luck. For more information on mining locations in OSRS, please refer to our mining guide.
Method 7 – Wines of Zamorak
- 33/37 Magic
- Supply of runes
- 250-310K Per Hour
One of the most well-known F2P money making methods involves collecting Zamorak Wines located deep within the wilderness. Since each wine sells for over 1.5K, telegrabbing them can lead to a significant hourly profit. However, since this activity takes place in level 38 wilderness, higher-level players often patrol the area and may attack you on sight.
To maximize your profits, it is important to stay vigilant and hop worlds if necessary. Unfortunately, the quickest route for F2P players is to walk from Edgeville bank all the way north into the deep wilderness to reach the chaos altar. Alternatively, having a magic level of 37 or higher will allow you to teleport directly to Falador and walk from there. Although the journey can be tedious, the potential payoff makes it worthwhile for those who are committed to the grind.
Method 8 – Creating Blue Dyes
- No Requirements
- Good supply of Woad Leaves from method 2 above
- 60-80K Per Hour
If you have collected a substantial amount of Woad Leaves from Wyson the Gardener using method 2, you can proceed to Draynor and speak with Aggie.
For 5 coins and 2 Woad Leaves, Aggie will create a blue dye for you. You can sell the blue dye on the Grand Exchange for approximately 240 coins. Considering you spend 20 coins on buying the leaves and 5 coins on purchasing the dye, you can earn a profit margin of 215GP per dye. This profit can accumulate rapidly, particularly if you have been collecting Woad Leaves for a while.
